Few vibes of Raiden Fighters there with the bullets too. Great stuff!

Hell yes! Doing some bkgs as well?

Ah, now I get why trap wants to free that bkg layer from the HUD as well.

This is going to be sooo good!

Nice enemy design, but the player ship looks a bit unremarkable imho.

How about a Recca style ship design?

Thanks. And yeah, not super happy with the playership yet. The Recca one is wider, so that would be more sprites. Would have to see if that is worth it. Maybe.

It is good to see ptoing getting into some Shmup work - keep up the good work.

Awesomeness!

But I really have to say that I think the clean (non detailed) sprites is what makes this so attractive.
So seeing the drop-ship getting all of that detail is making me a bit sad, actually. Don't get me wrong, it's really beautiful and superbly made.

Thanks, but also a "heh". The little sprites are actually pretty detailed, given the amount of colours and space I had to work with.

I just felt that the old dropship looked too empty for its size. Bosses will also be that level of detail, since they are bigger as well.

How much time do you spend per day on this, trap15? It's looking very pro already.

On average probably 2-3 hours. Yesterday was a 13 hour rockin' jam with ptoing, but I don't see that happening often

So, I think that the suicide bomb looks pretty cool, but I'm curious if you're going to add something mechanically to make it worth using the suicide bomb rather than dying to the hit? I mean apart from just "you could conceivably kill a few extra enemies."

If you kill stuff quicker you get more waves of enemies, so in some cases min-maxing the suicide bomb can give you quite a bit more score. I reckon Trap will make this a bit more pronounced when the level design gets polished.

No health bar in euro-mode. I give it a solid 3/5.

Honestly though the way this looks and progresses so fast makes me cover in shame and envy.

Thank you all for the kind words. I've updated the title post with more detail and some screenshots.

I'm playing around with adding more scoring than just "kill everything". I will probably demonstrate it in another video soon. Won't have much time to work on this for a few weeks though.

I just want to drop in and echo that I'm really excited about this project. It looks great so far and the fact that it's a wonderswan thing is attractive for reasons I can't really put my finger on.

By one moment, I thought those ships would combine themself, forming a big robot, like a "megazord samurai" :)

No, I'm absolutely incapable of composition heh. I've asked someone to try making something but haven't really heard much progress so I might ask some other people. It'll be a while for a new preview because I'm busy for a few weeks, but it should be a nice new preview then.

How is music handled on this platform? Is it some sort of midi that's translated, or low bit PCM?

The sound driver I'm using at the moment uses MML to notate the music, but there are many ways it could be done. Low-fi PCM is possible, but sounds like garbage and I'd rather not.

The sound hardware is somewhat similar to Namco N163 with 4 channels at 32-sample instruments.
