Anyone in the Kansas City area?

Post by tommyb »

Just wondering if there was anyone on here in the KCMO area (or KCK).

I relocated here from Detroit almost 2 years ago and have yet to find any sort of decent shmup or even arcade scene here outside of the bro crowd at Up Down (though they do have Daioh there!).

Would love to get something going if there isn't anything yet, let me know your thoughts!

I'm in the KC area, in Overland Park. Not much of an arcade scene here anymore, though I do have a candy cab with about 15 or so pcbs. I think szycag is still here in KC as well.

Yeah, doesn't seem like there's much. I'm in Raytown, used to be in Westport.

I'm working with a supergun right now and only about 5 PCBs, been trying to find a candy cab relatively close for a while now and have had no luck. This place is an arcade wasteland haha.

I'm slowly trying to get into the FGC around here, I've been to one of the Top In the Shop events.

Anyway I'd love to get together with fellow shmup nerds in the area to play some games sometime!

Ah cool, yeah I usually try to make it up to the Max Out monthlies when I can (used to go every month, but since my work schedule changed to working Saturdays that's been far less often), have plans to go to the one on the 27th here myself.

Gonna attempt a revival of this!

After a couple of years I've acquired more stuff and relocated to KCK. I have an Astro City (vertical) and a New Astro City (horizontal), an assortment of PCBs, and a PVM setup with an assortment of stuff now too. Which is to say, I want to have people over to play this stuff! Haha.

I (still) don't know many people in the KC area and would love to host some people for a game night one night if anyone is interested.

Szycag and I were planning an informal get together in a few weeks, but I'm definitely up for a meet. I have a decent assortment of PCBs and some Saturn stuff I could contribute.

Yeah I'm in Blue Springs, I've got the whole Cave lot on 360, mostly console stuff no cabs or PCBs. Dreamcast with GDEmu :)
Always love playing on cabs! Sounds awesome.

My house probably isn't setup the best for a full-blown "meet" but I think I can accamodate whoever would want to come. I unfortunately don't have a garage or a basement so everything is just in a room in my house but I can make it work.

What dates would work for everyone? I'm basically available anytime.

Stuminator mentioned being free the 15th or 16th, don't want to put words in his mouth but he should be just a little south of you and a straight shot on 435 for me so he might be the best host. Plenty spacious little space he's got, fits some pins and his cab nicely if I may say so.

That said - I can't bring my cabs with me lol so I'd like to host people sometime to get some use out of them by someone besides myself. Perhaps my place is better suited to something smaller, though, if we are expecting some sort of large turn-out.

Yeah with only the two of us on board it isn't even gonna matter I guess.

I kept in touch with Aleanil from this forum who is a casual shmups fan, he did my custom arcade stick for me. He is in Manhattan, KS though and from what little contact I had with him on Twitter sounds like he doesn't play much at all anymore. He is an arcade hardware fan though for sure.

Caldwert on here is in St. Louis, there's also drunkninja in Springfield further up this thread of course.

Do you have FB Messenger/Whatsapp or anything like that tommyb? I pretty much keep in touch with stuminator on here through the forum PMs.

PM'd!

I think tentatively we're shooting for either the 15th or 16th at my house in KCK? I'll post a list of stuff I have later tonight.

If you want to host on the 15th that would be ok with me. I will be working that day, but I typically only work until about 2 so that shouldn't be a big deal. 16th would be fine also, I'm free the whole day.

So it sounds like the 15th (next Saturday) it is!

I have a friend or two who are not on here (but are into arcade hardware/games) that will be attending, as well.

Here's a list of all the physical games I have

I have a ton more digital stuff on Switch, PS4, 360, XB1, and PC. That also doesn't include any of my hardware which includes:
14" PVM
Astro City (vertical, 1P3B)
New Astro City (horizontal, 2P12B)
Gamo2 PHOENIXWAN IIDX Controller
MSX2 (plus a bunch of bootleg games, including Aleste 2)
Supergun (with 2 NeoGeo controllers)
Dreamcast
Consoles for every game mentioned in the spreadsheet (except a Wii)

Reply if you want to attend and I'll PM you my address. Feel free to bring whatever you want to supplement what I have above!

Looking forward to playing games!

Here's the PCBs I have:

Dangun Feveron
Donpachi
Dragon Blaze
Gunbird 2
Raiden
Raiden II
Sengoku Ace
Sky Shark
Strikers 1945
Strikers 1945 II
Strikers 1945 III
Twin Cobra

I could also bring the Saturn ports of Batsugun and Radiant Silvergun, didn't see those in your game list.

Gotta bring Feveron!

I don't really feel I can contribute anything, unless you want to see Rolling Gunner or Omega Fighter Special on Switch. I guess in MAME OFS still doesn't run quite right and this version is good and very tough.
Icarus from the forum showing off Rolling Gunner, it has a dev from DeathSmiles and Akai Katana teams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frcnW8gKlO0

I'd just be happy to play some ESP Galuda 2 and Dangun Feveron on an Astro City so sounds great man.

I can't make it. I'll be out of town. Thinking of doing something at Two Plumbers in St. Charles, MO for Aka to Blue and Akyrios. I would like to have another shooter in there as well and do a tournament of sorts, but also don't want it on a junky cabinet. I'll post up if I do decide to do it.

Sometime in March should be ok. Like the previous time, I usually work on Saturdays but am off by 2 so that shouldn't be too big a deal.
