Massachusetts/North East Shmupathon Aug/Sept planning

Post by chempop »

My body is ready. Just want to see who's around and gather some interest before planning anything solid.
I'm in western MA 01027 about 2 hours from Boston. 3 cabs and multiple console rigs.
Would like to keep this on the smaller side, maybe 10 guests max. Weekend, obviously.
Let me know if you're down for some games!

I'm interested. I'll have to figure out transportation, but let me know if this is happening! I can bring a PCB or two as well, if you want.

Wish I lived just a bit closer to you, you've got a great setup.

When this does happen, you should stream it.

Re: Massachusetts/North East Shmupathon-and BAR-CADE-EVENT!

Post by chempop »

Yo guys, my buddies bar-cade finally opened here in western MA. http://hadleyquarters.com/ What I'm proposing is a "two birds, one stone" type event, maybe meet up here at my place early afternoon and then carpool about 15 minutes to The Quarters for some retro/pinball/food/drinks/etc goodness.

Any saturdays in the next month or two work particularly well for people?

I wish I wasn't an 8 hour drive from you, I'd love to go. If anyone is in-between Ohio and Massachusetts, maybe you'd let me drive to you, then you go the rest of the way? :> Just thinking of possibilities.

Today I checked out The Quarters with a couple peeps and it's pretty dang awesome. Not much for shmups, but I still had a great time (mostly played 1943 :P ). I think it would be well worthwhile for people to make a little trip out this way, spend the afternoon at my place and then hit up the cade for some Kimchi Pups and drinks.

Like I said, saturdays are best, but sunday is an option too. As for accommodations, I only have 1 couch, but I do have a lot of floor space lol. Feel free to suggest some dates, feb, march, whenever...

That looks like a neat place. I'll have to see if I run by it on my way to PAX East.

Hey chem,

ebin from N-G here, how would you feel about setting a date like the 22nd or 29th for a doubleheader at your place and Quarters? I can bring some boards too.

Anyone else down for this saturday or next? Maybe meet up for a bit at my place and then head over to The Quarters (or visa versa). I'm not looking for a huge crowd, but can have 4-5 setups at my place.

Astro with vert PCB (currently has DDP, happy to swap anything)
Blast with vert PCB or Dreamcast (NeoXYX)
Blast with hori 2L12B (currently has Virtua Fighter 3)
Tate trinitron (Saturn w/Battle Garegga, pad only)
Tate trinitron (360 w/Cave ports etc, HRAP)

Live within a 2 min walk from the grocery store, pizza place, Indian food, Chinese food, etc. The Quarters has a nice selection of hotdogs among other things.

Had a great time on saturday with those who came out. Games played here were NeoXYX, Dimahoo, SDOJ, DDP, Ibara, Guwange, SSF2T, and VSavior. Had a decent DDP (2-3) and okay Ibara demonstrations. At The Quarters we mostly played 3rdStrike and a little space invaders amd robotron. It was packed as usual and although the fighting game crowd wasn't around, the owner came out played a bunch of 3rdStrike matches with us.

Thanks for coming out guys, will have to do it again at some point! :D

It was a lot of fun! It was great meeting all of you! I guess there is somewhat of an arcade scene around these parts after all.

PLANNING ANOTHER MEET

Likely to be around mid-sept.
I don’t want a big crowd, once I know who can make it I’ll figure out how many extra guests I can have.

So who is going to be around? Is sooner better, I’m completely open to basically any weekend.
