Dave_K. is planning to host another shmupmeet in San Jose, California on about August 13, 2005 at the earliest. (He said something like this here.) If you'd like to attend this meet, when will you be available?

I can be available anytime, though I prefer to attend on a weekend. I'll probably still be looking for a job, so I'll need the weekdays free to do so.

Oh yeah, what other information would you like to know about the next shmupmeet, so we could put it in the first post of this thread?

. . .

Also, Dave_K., do you think you will have the synchronized rapid fire circuits ready by the time we have this shmupmeet? To maximize one's score in Mushihime, one needs a circuit that creates a certain sequence of on-off states. And there was a discussion on creating such a circuit here:

http://forum.shmups.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2911

It seems that we need to add more components to Galford's original circuit. So I just wanted to make sure that you know that Galford's circuit alone is probably insufficient to maximize one's score in Mushihime.

A Saturday or Sunday would be the best for me.

I can also give a ride to pixelcorps if he can't get to the meet by himself. I hope he could sell some Ikaruga t-shirts at the meet. I'd definitely get one if he has any left at the time, since I have no PayPal, and the one I have is fading due to too much washing.

BER, I doubt I'll have time to create the autofire circuits in time for the meet. I understand Galford's original circuit won't do the trick for Mushiheme. If someone else has time to make it (and bring) I'm willing to hook it up.

I'd be willing to buy one of those Ikaruga shirts if pixelcorp can make some more! :D

Oh, okay. Thanks for your consideration, though.

I've got a Atari Jag/Jamma stick with auto-fire...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Between my two superguns, a MAK one and one of Matt's customized ones...I use a Happ joystick that I had Matt mod with three seperate auto-fire switches for buttons A, B, & C respectively. I've noticed on certain shmup arcade titles like Psyvariar Revision, auto-fire really doesn't do anything if it's turned on...although the end-stage bosses energy level does go down much faster.

I still don't see any other fellow shmuppers here in Modesto-Stockton, CA area. There's gotta be some shmuppers in that area, huh?

Guys, I might be off here, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that the PS2 version is going to have autofire programmed in from the get-go. DDPDOJ and Galuda both had it. Granted, it's not Arika doing the work, but with Mushi relying on such a mechanic I have to believe that it'll be included. If that's so, then there'll be no need to make a fancy autofire button.

Except the high scoring techniques Mushi require a variety of autofire rates, which they are unlikely to include in a port, especially since it requires things like adding hardware autofire to the software autofire button...

I'm actually skeptical the techniques will even work on the PS2 port, since most of the autofire circuits being used are synched to vsync of the video signal. The timings may not work out right on the PS2 at all...

Provided the port is not scaled/filtered, the timings should be exactly the same (or at least they could make sure the refresh is the same since PS2 can do true lowres). The other cave ports are true low res, so I'm assuming yes.

But to answer 8 1/2's question, there already is a "C" autofire button (in software) even on the PCB...so although this will be present in the port, the different autofire Hz rates of the hardware hack most likely will not be there.

Sorry to be so ignorant here. I've been saving Mushi, and I've been purposely trying to NOT read anything on it, so this is the first I've heard of this autofire business. Am I to understand then that it's a hack and not really intended by Cave themselves in the original design? If so, I have no interest in playing it that way except as a novelty.

Indeed, the business involving auto-fire to make scores skyrocket comes from hardware hacks.

However, Arcadia will maintain records of the top Mushihime scores that are obtained without auto-fire hacks. So you will still have valid benchmarks against which to compare your scores.

I can give you a lift. I am gonna bring my 13" TV, and DC, and will play some Giga Wing 1/2 Mars Matrix, Bangai-O, Zero Gunner 2 without having to trouble Dave with his arcade setup. But I am sure everyone will be playing Mushihimesama, including myself. :D PM will definitely be sent about shirts very soon. :D

I wonder what new games Dave picked up besides Mushi. :D

If the meet is going to be on 8/13, it's a little more than two short weeks away. :)

Hi guys, I just got back from a 2 week trip running around Europe with my girlfriend. Quite the expierence. I was fortunate enough to meet up with DEL at the Casino arcade in London, and played the real Mushihemesama! I'll be getting the PS2 port later this week along wth the new Twinkle Star Sprites.

So I do have some other new games since the last offical meet. I'm thinking I'll put the Namco/Dreamcast cab into horizontal mode, and the Astro City cab too. This way we can play all those other DC hori shooters (so no need to bring the 13" monitor IlMrm), and also try out Progear and Demon Front on the Astro.

As for the date/time of the meet, I'm flexable. 8 1/2, is this Classic gaming expo the same as CA Extreme? I thought that was this coming weekend? Would moving the shmupmeet to Sunday 8/14 be any better for people? Or any other suggested dates?

Pixelcorps, did you get many PMs for shirts? I would have liked one of those black ikaruga shirts, but understand its to late by now. If you have any extra shirts, bring them to the meet, and I'm sure they will sell. :D

You, sir, are a lucky man.

I've been looking forward to playing Mushi so much I had a dream about it last night. I dreamt I was fighting a boss in Ultra mode last night, and getting owned of course.

I am free on the 13th and 14th. I am hoping the date would be set and confirmed early, so I can arrange details with pixelcorps, and my other friend(he was at the last meet), and maybe one other friend, so they can scheduled around their work/any other events if need be.

Ooooh TSS. A big thanks again to Dave for hosting the meet.

Sunday the 14th would be best for me if possible, i can bring over my dojin collection or just my bare PC to hookup to your TV, if i can come early and set it up with Dave, that would be great. But i think everyone is going to be playing Mushi. I'm really looking forward to playing Demon Front and Progear.

later, here is hoping it will be on the 14th of August after 10am or whatever Dave_K decides.

Sure, I'll be free on August 14th for the entire day. The eariler we start and the later we end this meet, the better. :)

Nah, Cal Extreme is the arcade show. CGE is about retro console stuff. I dont' really care much myself, but I have a collector flying in from Washington for it and he's going to be staying with me. That said, the 14th would be fine with me.

I believe Shariar07 will bring his modded ps2 if we need to play on the large monitor. I have the other PS2 games you mention. It would be great if you could bring the ps2 namco arcade stick though! :D

Ok, so lets settle on Sunday August 14th then for the next official meet. I'd also like to start a little earlier as my garage heats up quite quickly now with it being so hot outside (sorry I don't have AC at my place...just fans). People can start coming as early as 9am. Feel free to bring snacks/drinks, and then around noon I'll collect a couple bucks from everyone and order 2 large pizzas.

BER, can you edit your first post in this thread and change the title to Sunday August 14th for the next bay area meet. Thanks!

If anyone else wants to join who hasn't already posted in this thread, speak up now so I can get an accurate count, and I'll PM directions to everyone a couple days before the meet.

Sounds very good. I keep forgetting it is summer and it's hot everywhere except in San Francisco, and Pacifica. Even as I am typing this it is foggy outside.

Dave, can your DC play the US version of Bangai-O? I could bring that since you are going to flip the monitor.

pixelcorps - I will PM you, heck, right now regarding directions.

I can't wait to play Mushi.
