Wow - Icarus - I don't think I've seen you post here since I met you in person at the Casino Shmupmeet at the beginning of the year...

Anyway - I'm popping into Casino on Friday if any of you are there.

And who's going to design the Casino Royale team signature banner?

And where are Skykid, Rupert or Taylor's sign-ups? Actually - I know Skykid is busy with his BoD article for Eurogamer.

As captain (grrr!) I've sent a couple of reminder PMs. Not sure about the banner, but I know skykid could do a nice job. ;)

Come on guys. Don't delay, signup now to be a part something..err"special". :D

Was meaning to ask you something about Progear, spadgy. I've started playing it on Mame, and noticed the standard button config doesn't seem to include autofire. Is that right, given the setup at Casino? It's much harder to time taps and releases with one button. I've probably missed something in Mame. Btw, this could be appearing in STG08.

Self-imposed exile, for work and study-related purposes. Been quite refreshing.
I'm only back for the tournament, however. As Masamune said, "always an addict"... ^_-

If you hold the F2 button when the game starts up you can activate auto fire on the C button. Use the US version to remember what menus to click, as the JP version doesn't have English text.

Ah, thanks :). What confused me is that progear in the cab at casino has an autofire button, but in Mame it doesn't by default. Has some kind of autofire rig been implemented in the arcade or is mame just warped?

Edit: DEL, you're coming close to capturing our shitness. ;)

Just foolin' around RGC

Progear boards have an autofire button (C) as standard.

Well, welcome back for your holiday in Shmupforum Land.

RGC - they made you captain! I didn't notice. That's brilliant!

With regards to Progear, I ran it briefly on Mac MAME. I think I just turned on autofire in the game's own dip switches. Or, thinking about it, I just played with the button config in Mac MAMEs input/controller config options. I think it gave the game three buttons, so assigned them all to my stick and one was auotfire. Then I swapped the order about to mimic Casino's shit-heap cab...

Got it. Now I just need to get practicing with the game itself. :)

Skykid, RupertH, Taylor and the rest of you who aren't already in long established teams - any of you in?
Not for me thanks, maybe next year :)

Also, I'll probably drift down sometime on Saturday.

Welcome! You should visit Casino. If you check the first post of this thread there's a list of the games, though it misses out about half-a-dozen of the really old titles on a multi-game cab. Galaga and the like.

Hey I finally beat the default high score on that game that no one plays.
I actually understand the game too, and it is surprisingly much more enjoyable when playing for score.

Wait.. are you telling me there's an Arcade with GAMES in it about a hour from me?

I absolutely will have to check this out, do they still have Ketsui or am I SOL? Pretty sure along with other recent CAVE games I'll never get to play that sucker!

Ketsui has been gone a while. Like spadgy said, the current list is in the first post, but Cave wise you're looking at Progear, Mushi and Ibara with 3-4 credits for a quid.

Is there anything decent in Troc? I’ve not seen much wandering around but I heard rumours they have something in there if you clamber over a thousand DDR cabinets, pull a secret lever and disappear behind a bookcase into some secret nook. But I guess you’d still ultimately be in a room filled with squarking kids, loud techno and epilepsy inducing strobe lights while being leered at by security guards that could probably punch you through a wall.

Just like playing a Cave game!

They have Strikers 1945 at The Troc, and Raiden III at Las Vegas Arcade, halfway between Casino and Troc.

EDI: And hello Joel. I live about the same distance as you from Casino, so I'll hopefully be seeing you there. It's a really nice group of regulars there as I'm sure Taylor would testify. I'm down this Thursday in fact. Anybody else?

Well, if I get away from work on time, approximately 6.30pm. Maybe 6.45pm. Hopefully I'll see you then, then.

Awesome video jpj! Strangely, until the recent London Mini'eet, I hadn't been to the Troc since the Sega World Days. Wonder where all that Sonic emblazoned tat went to?

All the people I've met on this board are sound, as has everyone else I've met down there. It's a nice little place.

It's closer to a two hour journey for me, so getting there on a weekday is kind of silly as I'd have to head home as soon as I arrived. But I think I'll be down this Sunday at 12ish

I'd not be able to tomorrow but the weekend might work.

Might be cool to leave it a week though and see if anyone else can make it. Have ourselves a little chin wag.

Might be good to brush up on my DOJ too, I'd hate to make a tit of myself on Ibara or whatever :D

I make a tit of myself every visit! I might have to call of today though, and head along tomorrow (Friday) instead. Next week I'm at Leipzig Game Convention all bloody bastard week, but after that I'll be back to frequenting Casino once or twice a week again.

Well I picked a bad night. No one was there! A couple of quick comments from the iPaq. Ibara was great. Nice and loud. But do you know what? The PS2 version is fine. Not too much difference in resolution tbh. Noticeable but not as bad as reported. However maybe it's because I'm an old git but playing close to the screen gets some getting used to! Also the RFJet cabinet plays Mushima I think. Liked that game a lot. Time to get it for the PS2. A bit disappointed that some of the tubes on the screens had blown.

Anyway, where were you all!
