Heart of Gaming Mini Meet

23 / 1 / 16

After seeing the Heart of Gaming's recent posts regarding their shmup lineup, I thought it might be good to get down there and show some support for one of the last remaining places to play real PCB's on real cabs. I'm thinking the weekend of the 23rd or 24th depending on when people are free and when's most convenient?

The 23rd would be most convenient for me. Hopefully the rest of the Casino Crew will be able to overcome last year's apathy towards The HoG and drag themselves along as well!

I was down The HoG last weekend and their current shmup line-up is Ikaruga, ESP Ra.De. and Strikers 1945. Also, Mark the owner said that MAME machines will be going in some of their Astro City cabs soon, so if we're lucky the shmup selection may have increased significantly by the time of the mini meet!

Looks as though this weekend is a no-go for a few people now (myself included) so the HoG mini-meet is currently postponed until February.

Well if Strikers 1945 is up and running, I wouldn't mind seeing if I can 2-ALL after 10yrs absence lol.....would be lucky if 1-clear. Will pop down this week or weekend.

last time I come to there, about September 2015, I just found one STG in there, I didn't know what the name is, it is a horizontal STG.
So this mouth, there will be a mini-meet in HoG?

I have no idea but if there is a mini meet then email me r68roberts@gmail.com so that I can get up to speed on some 2loop Strikers1945. If the game is still running. May pop down and get mark's number to find out what events are coming up.

The Last Shmupper

Date: Saturday 19th March
Time
: 2PM - Late
Venue: The Heart of Gaming
Website: https://www.facebook.com/TheHeartOfGaming
Nearest Tube Station: North Acton

Following in the footsteps of hzt and JWS I'm going off to live in Japan at the end of the month! With Skykid in China now, that means about half of us will be in the Far East soon: maybe we should start a "Casino Crew Asia" offshoot? :P

Anyway, I'll be down The HoG one last time this Saturday, so if anyone can make it as well please come along! At the moment The HoG's shmup selection is Defender, ESP Ra.De., Ikaruga and Strikers 1945. There are also 4 gigantic Street Fighter V cabs, entirely custom made as the game has no official arcade version - definitely worth checking out.

Hope to see you there!

Only just saw this, so terrible at checking the forum... are you going to be moving to Tokyo? I'm going to be there (ie Tokyo) from Wednesday morning until Sunday...

We should head down to HEY and sneer at the fact that they don't have any Electrocoins and the carpet isn't sticky enough.

I live near Nagoya now, which has a bullet train line going to Tokyo so it'll be pretty easy for me to get there. Did you let hzt know that you'll be in Tokyo soon - maybe we could all meet up at the weekend? Anyway, I'll try to be there if possible!

I am meeting HZT on Friday night. Will very quickly be in the land of no data and frankly my knowledge of Tokyo is negligible anyway so it would be a lot more fruitful if you contacted him directly :D

That's awesome though what are you doing near Nagoya?

At the moment I'm on a teacher training course, and in a few weeks when that's over I'll be teaching English at 3 local schools. Wish me luck!

Will post a new thread with this post. HOG has moved to Croydon. Details are sketchy at the moment but it looks like its within the town centre or high st. Space inside is huge compared with North Acton.

Wow wow that looks incredible.

NOT a fan of the flat rate "modernization" (which everybody else and their mother are already doing), but hey, whatever it takes to keep this stuff going.

Quite excited about this, The Four Quarters are due to open a new barcade about 5 minutes walk from me in Hackney Wick any time now. Good news all round

Four Quarters needed a change of scene anyway. Just not happening for them in Peckham. Is there another link about the change of venue other than FB? Stop using my fb years ago.

No real info elsewhere, not a huge amount on FB other than photos of them building the place, game selection also yet to be announced. As it's so close to me I'll probably be down there on the regs (campaigning for shmups in the cabs).

Judging by the images of the shopping centre, I think I know where it is to try and get a sneek peak and perhaps catch up with Mark. Just waiting for this sh*tty cold wet weather to p*ss off.

Pity you couldn't fit the time to checkout the new HOG. Decent spells of weather for the past 2-3 weeks. 31c hottest in London so far.

Visited London yesterday and clocked up over 400 miles on my motorcycle so thought id check out Las Vegas arcade. I was kinda dissappointed in what they had...just loads of rhythm games but there was Tekken 6 & 7 there so got me some joystick practice in. I couldnt pull off a EWGF to save my life...I guess im too used to joypad now but overall its not a bad place I kinda see that maybe its because the rhythm games are brining the £ in and the other cabs/games not so much.

That was also the first time I checked out the chinatown part of soho....way better than the joke of a chinatown here in birmingham :P

You visited Las Vegas about 20 years too late when it was a good place to hang out for arcade scene though Namco Wonderpark and Casino at Goodge street were the main two places in London West End until HOG Heart Of Gaming in North Acton (now in Croydon shopping centre).

Want to checkout the new place sometime next week to see what is there and see what potential of a Stunfest style event in London.

Ooh, good info about Four Quarters East, that's right by me. Looks like they have some nice pinball machines too.
