Xbox 360 DOA4 Hori joystick

I picked one of these fine sticks up a few weeks ago. It's a great stick (Hori, of course), IMO better than the DC Agetec even.

Problem is, I can't seem to get this to work under Mac OSX. There is a beta OSX driver for 360 controllers called "Pref360Control" which allows the use of standard controllers to some degree. But this Hori stick isn't recognized at all by my OS.

Can someone confirm if these do work at all under a Windows XP? It's as if there's some sort of lockout chip in these joysticks that prevent them from being used on anything other than a Xbox360 console.
