Seimitsu modded Dreamcast stick
Here's my Dreamcast stick, nothing fancy, just modded with a Seimitsu LS32 stick and Seimitsu buttons. Totally un-moddified inside so it's still just a Dreamcast stick.
I've got a clear blue ball top on its way to me in the post but apart from that, it's pretty much finished.
The stick was way too low when mounted in the normal place, even after cutting away all the plastic walls in there. So instead I just gutted the insides and mounted the stick straight onto the top plate.

This one looks nice. Was the drilling in metal hard? This plate seems a bit thick;o T-Stick is on the way to me from Ultimarc and I already have a problem how will I mount it - holes for scews are not on a sqare form but rather rectangle.

Still thinking about mounting it in metal...

You'll have to at least get your hands dirty :pchtimi-CLA wrote:i'm thinking about modding my dc sticks with japanese style arcade parts, what are some options that (if possible) don't require too much drilling/breaking and where to buy them?

Looks to be a nice job there, evilfunkster. :)
If you want a stock-like shaft height, go with Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT or Seimitsu LS-55-01, LS-56-01.
Personally, I like the 'low down' feeling with an LS-32 installed.
If you get the Sanwa JLF, also get a 5-pin harness to go with it, part# JLF-H (Seimitsu includes it with their sticks).
I would recommend getting the screw type buttons on your first try, in case you fuck up the button hole shaving. And if you can afford it, the higher durability RG and X switched buttons. That is Sanwa OBSN-30RG and Seimitsu PS-14-GXN.
The parts you use won't make much difference. It's about the same amount of work involved.chtimi-CLA wrote:i'm thinking about modding my dc sticks with japanese style arcade parts, what are some options that (if possible) don't require too much drilling/breaking and where to buy them?

chtimi: Save yourself the hassle and make sure whatever stick you get comes w/ a harness. I've always found them worth the extra $5 or so... 5 fewer points to solder.
The crappiest part of modding an agetec is shaving the mount down. A true pain in the ass, but really is more of a hassle than anything.

That's no shaft cover, it's black electrical tapeoxtsu wrote:It looks like you have an LS-40 there. Just noticed the shaft cover.
It didn't have a shaft cover on it. I used tape to cover some sharp metal bits that were sticking out. I think a previous owner might have used pliers or something to get the ball off and damaged it.
Ah the classics. As a side note, has anyone actually ever had a chance to use the "that's my wife" joke?theevilfunkster wrote:That's no shaft cover, THAT'S MY WIFE!!!oxtsu wrote:It looks like you have an LS-40 there. Just noticed the shaft cover.
You're arguing for a universe with fewer waffles in it. I'm prepared to call that cowardice.

Re: Semitsu modded Dreamcast stick
Silly question, but what kind of stick is originally inside the DC Arcade stick ?theevilfunkster wrote:Here's my Dreamcast stick, nothing fancy, just modded with a Semitsu LS32 stick and Semitsu buttons. Totally un-moddified inside so it's still just a Dreamcast stick.

it's actualy not that bad at all, but some have been known to stick in corners. This happened to me with one stick, but never with the other. You could definately do a LOT worse than a stock agetec.

Re: Semitsu modded Dreamcast stick
Thanks for the information, I opened it last night and it's indeed a noname. The PCB looks like Seimitsu but the switches are wrong. The LS-32 should have 'plungers' on the microswitches. My stick is labeled: HKT-7300 and made in Taiwan, is this the agetec ?Kingbuzzo wrote:probably something no name :prtw wrote:Silly question, but what kind of stick is originally inside the DC Arcade stick ?theevilfunkster wrote:Here's my Dreamcast stick, nothing fancy, just modded with a Semitsu LS32 stick and Semitsu buttons. The difference is in the contact used. The 01 uses a small 5 pin contact instead of the normal blade connectors. Normally you get this wire and plug when you order such a stick but ask to make 100% sure.Kiel wrote:So if I decide to go the LS-32 route its just "plug and play"? I dont have to solder anything?
And what about LS-32 vs. LS-32-01?

Re: Semitsu modded Dreamcast stick
I have bought many DC sticks while they were cheap, for me and for friends, and a fair share of them either stuck in corner or were much too stiff. Even those that work are OK but don't even compare with a hori stick or even (but i'll probably be alone on this) the neo-geo stick, neo or ps2 version.Kingbuzzo wrote: it's actualy not that bad at all, but some have been known to stick in corners. Re: Semitsu modded Dreamcast stick
I'm with you on this one, neo sticks are my favorite. I use them for both my neo geo and my super gun.chtimi-CLA wrote: (but i'll probably be alone on this) the neo-geo stick, neo or ps2 version.

maybe if all did. I still have a stock agetec that has no such problems.
probably happens after a lot of use, and even then I find the worst will only get stuck if you push it far into a corner and then leave it there. It's (my old stock agetec) never gotten stuck for me while playing shmups since I'm probably always moving the stick.

Re: Semitsu modded Dreamcast stick
its really not difficult, its just seems that way if you havent done it before. im sure someone could walk you through it. whatever questions you have should be easily answered.Kiel wrote:I dont think I'd be too confident in my abilities with electrical stuff...
If I get the parts and do the modding work could I get one of you guys to do the wiring?
ive had two agetec's for a number of years and never had a problem with the sticks themselves either. some of the buttons started to wear out, thats it.Kingbuzzo wrote:
