Problem with RGB Bypass - Mega Drive model 1

Post by Misos »

Hello. I'm having a little bit of trouble figuring this out.
I've installed a RGB bypass board by Voultar in my Japanese Mega Drive Model 1 (va6).
At first got no sync because I mistakenly lift pin 11 instead of pin 10 of the CXA1145.
Now I got sync but only blue and white colors. I've checked continuity between pins of the main video encoder and the bypass PCB and they all check.
I've installed some smd caps to reduce noise on the board too.
For some reason I don't get any voltage on the 5 volts line on the scart cable (the bypass pcb and console get +5v just fine).
I've attached some pictures too see if anyone spot something wrong.
Any sort of direction to what to do would really help.

Have you checked for shorts? That one SMD cap that's placed at an angle looks like it could be shorting legs on the Sega chip.

I also had my JP VA6 bypassed, had it done by someone else though as I wasn't as experienced back then. It won't work with some RGB cables, it apparently needs a Csync cable but one Retro Access cable works and another custom one I ordered recently doesn't.

Missing full colors but still having white.... Swing is fked somewhere, like you didnt remove the resistors upstream of your RGB feed from the main chip.
