A fake or not a fake?

Post by neorichieb1971 »

I recently commented on ghebs24 competition cart on youtube and it seems the comment was deleted. I tried to be nice about it but you know how these things go people just delete what they don't want folk to see. Obviously if you go out of your way to say something is genuine then you're practically supporting more of these being made at top dollar prices. But I am open to discussion here and see if I am right. You guys here are experts so lets go and see if I am right, or the lady is right.

Watch this video for about 1 minute or so.

To me, the work on that cart seems like a donor PCB, donor shell, fake label and a dumped ROM using modern techniques that didn't exist back in 1992-3 when the competition was held. Whilst I am no expert, it seems impossible to me that the cart is real or genuine. Not to mention in the USA competition carts had hand written writing on them. Nintendo did not go the extreme lengths of cart production for 15 or so units. Maybe they did for this release.

https://www.pricecharting.com/game/pal- ... ompetition - Pricecharting shows something similar, but somehow seems to disregard there is no such thing as a complete in box, box only or manual available for this cartridge as it never went on sale.

Kelsey at Pink Gorilla made this video a while back demonstrating that when you see black blobs, its definitely a fake - https://youtu.be/TqwDN-njSls?t=664

So what gives guys? Was I right or wrong?

Thanks.

The inside of the cart seems legit, those blobs you see are Super FX chips from 1992.
