playing import games on a PS1

Post by doctorx0079 »

Okay, this question is somewhat retarded, but, what's the best way to play import games on a new-style PS1? I desoldered and resoldered my Jakks Pac-Man joystick, and it still works, so I guess I'm okay with solder.

Swap devices change the TOC and feature no redbook tracks so that there's no pointer to the start of any redbook audio. Since the PS loads with the swap disc's TOC, the sound is completely messed up.

Essentially, there's no redbook audio in these games, which is annoying enough (or it's completely off-track using a serial port game enhancer with another redbook audio game used as swap).

However, in some games, when the audio isn't detected, the game freezes since the programmers expected its audio tracks to always be there and when finding an exception that there was no track in the TOC, just aborted. That results in a hanging black screen. However, using a game enhancer with a game with lots of redbook as swap can sometimes put in incorrect but still readable values for the TOC, allowing the game to continue with a completely different track or time on the track.
