Gameboy game box plastic shells

Post by shmupsrocks »

Were the hard plastic shells I see around some Gameboy game boxes part of the original factory packaging or aftermarket?

I don't remember them from the old days but maybe because I'm so old?

OUTSIDE the cardboard box? No, absolutely not. Straight paperboard boxes with factory shrinkwrap. What you're seeing is probably the recent trend of "box protectors" for collecting purposes.

Talking about NTSC/US packaging here.

I was talking about these -

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304638981920 ... ygQAvD_BwE

I have a few that came with my Gameboy games and they are ridiculously hard to open I had to use a knife.

If you are talking these -

They are after market, designed to keep cardboard boxes in minty shape.

You just press in on the tab to open those. I have never had an issue opening any of mine. They were included with the games.
