Snes RGB Bypass Amp (4.1b-VGP) Install photos for 3-chip?
Snes RGB Bypass Amp (4.1b-VGP) Install photos for 3-chip?
Hi guys,
I've got a 3-chip (with seperate audio board connector) JP Famicom console I'm going to attempt to install this board in. On Borti's instruction page he mentions the SHVC-CPU-01 has been reported to be OK but the original link to AssemblerGames is dead and also not available on archive.org.
Anyhow, I am a visual-learning kind of guy and while I should be OK following the text-only instructions on Github, a photo is always helpful to see placement of the PCB, wire lengths and that kind of thing.
If anyone else could share some photos with me it'd be much appreciated, thank you.

Re: Snes RGB Bypass Amp (4.1b-VGP) Install photos for 3-chip
Not my pictures, but I've found a picture of Borti's SNES RGB Bypass Amp used in tandem with another SNES RGB mod that's intended to remove the horizontal blur that's typically found on 3-chip consoles. The reason why he had both mods installed simultaneously is the brightness was too high when he installed the deblur mod: viewtopic.php?p=1422738#p1422738
There's an archive of the AssemblerGames forum and I've found the post you've linked to there:

Thank you very much! By the way, is this where to cut the R G B traces?KPackratt2k wrote:Not my pictures, but I've found a picture of Borti's SNES RGB Bypass Amp used in tandem with another SNES RGB mod that's intended to remove the horizontal blur that's typically found on 3-chip consoles. Just to clarify I'm just struggling to understand the following: "cut traces for R', G' and B' right before the MultiAV (but behind C44, C46 and C47)" From Borti's guide
If anyone could just check above my google drive photo it'd be much appreciated, thanks!

Look at the pinout for the av multi out and use a multimeter to confirm yourself.

I'm not asking if Borti's instructions are wrong (he clearly states which lines to cut) it is just the 'before capacitors' part I'd like confirming by someone who has done the mod. Checking the av multi out with my multimeter won't answer my query. But thanks anyway!Syntax wrote:Look at the pinout for the av multi out and use a multimeter to confirm yourself.

Just want to know if I've interpreted his instructions properly before going forward ...

Just an update, I was talking to firebrandx on FB about it and he says Bortis instructions don't seem right, so now the correct way should be this:

Should be cutting behind C44, C45 and C47. Apparently this keeps the capacitors connected to the RGB lines as decoupling caps.
Firebrandx opened an issue on Github about it: https://github.com/borti4938/SNES_RGB_Bypass/issues/3

If the tracks under the mask run like this then yes, cut those traces where you have marked.
It will isolate the RGB lines and keep the decoupling caps in place like Bortie wanted.

Cheers man, the install went great. I updated the Github issue log with my pictures:
https://github.com/borti4938/SNES_RGB_Bypass/issues/3
I'd upload them here but I can't find a way to upload images on this forum.

You can upload the pictures to Imgur and either post the images onto your posts (by copying the BBCode in the share links dialog) or post a link to the album.Steve030 wrote:I'd upload them here but I can't find a way to upload images on this forum.

That's great you got the mod working! The fall of AssemblerGames and NintendoAge hurt out scene. I like to use imgbb.com for uploading instead of Imgur since it doesn't downsize at all. Also has BBCode link I directly paste here.
In case anyone is confused on the term, 3Chip is what they call 2Chip in German because the CPU and two PPUs are three separate chips. I dislike since the PCB itself labels the hardware revision 2Chip. Borti is from the German scene and uses the German term in English.

Very cool. Curious to hear your feedback on results.
