BVM-D14H5U wobble

Post by nsm »

I have a BVM-D14H5U in excellent condition, but the image wobbles quote noticeably - though the intensity of it comes and goes.

I made a couple reddit posts about it:
https://reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comments ... _pedantic/
https://www.reddit.com/r/crtgaming/comm ... _169_mode/

What's odd is that switching to 16:9 mode on the BVM seems to solve the problem entirely. I tried to take a decent video of the switching back and forth here:

In particular, look at the edges of the text to see the wobbling.

links to this video:

which seems like a similar problem, but my image isn't quite as jittery, the wobble is slower and wavier.

I've tried a number of things: adding a ferrite core to the power cable, diving into the menus to try and adjust relevant settings, tried a number of different input sources to verify it wasn't specific to the console output. I have a PVM 14L2 and Commodore 1084s that I tried on the same outlet, and both have no issues whatsoever.

At this point, I'm simply curious what the problem (if any) could be! I don't know much about CRT construction/maintenance, and would love to hear from anyone knowledgable on the subject.

Cheers and thanks for reading.
