Amiga, X68000, PC without a computer?

Post by shmupsrocks »

Is there any way to play the shmups on any or all of these platforms without fiddling with a computer?

RetroPie and MiSTer support both platforms.

Ok I've got to try the MiSTer for Amiga and X68000.

Anything like a standalone device for PC platform shmups?

I'm not really sure what you're asking. You want a mini standalone PC to play PC games, but it can't be a PC?

Dosbox would work? I really don't know why you'd want to replace a PC with another PC. There's nothing to admin (whatever that means) it's just a PC.

I'm just looking for something as plug-and-play as possible. More along the lines of this:

https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeck/

If I don't need a keyboard it probably fits the bill.

Yeah, the steamdeck is pretty much the only game in town when it comes to bringing a console like experience to PC gaming. There might be other devices, but I bet you will have to live with a fair bit of PC jank when it comes to them. That steam device is your best bet to minimize that.
