No Interlace PS2 Cheat

Post by lilpetamoix »

Has anyone tried the "no interlace" cheat on actual PS2? I tried it via OPL's PS2rd using cheats codes from below. I thought it would give me a sharper picture after disabling interlacing but the resulting image looks blurrier, if anything. Was wondering if anyone else have tried it?

That is going to look bad on most games unless they're arcade ports of 240p games. And even then, only if they've been integer scaled to 480i/p.

Like capcom classics collection looks bad because nothing is integer scaled and it has a blur filter applied

These patches are not the same as 480p progressive patches. So it looks on emulators great but not on console hardware. I tried some of these. The output looks like its downscaled to 240p because of the missing interlacing but to my suprise the OSSC detects the signal as 480i interlaced.
I would recommend to use GSM 0.23 to downscale ps2 games to 240p and line multiply to 1080p via OSSC + Scanlines.

Thank you, btw I enjoy your videos on YT and contribution on RT5X.

Did the games actually look better after being downscaled and re-upped to 1080p? I know in one of the videos you did cover a 3D PS2 game (noting not too much diff) but wasn't sure if sprite based fighter game turned out better or not.

Thanks.
They do look better with scanlines enabled:

Here some gameplay:

Unfortunately I forgot to set 4:3 aspect ratio while capturing.
