Which scart cable should I use on N64 RGB V.2 Mod

Post by Evanfly »

Hi guys firstly thanks for letting me join this forum I'm sure I'll learn alot from it .Now my question I've recently purchased/Upgraded to a N64 with the Tim Worthington's RGB V.2.0 mod which is currently in transit to me and I would like to get the best possible picture from it on my CRT,I have read about using an official rgb gamecube cable or pal snes one but I would like to use a retrogaming cable as I am based in the UK & have them on my other consoles also these are easier to obtain & asume an upgrade to the official ones? does anyone use these cables and could point me to which version I require.many thanks for taking the time & appreciate any replies

Like everything with 30 year old consumer electronics, the answer is "it depends".

You've rightly said that this wont work at all unless your N64 RGB modified - and yours is, sweet!

Given that you are based in the UK your RGB modified console is almost certainly going to be UK/Euro - which is PAL. RGC normally sell two kinds of N64 SCART cables on this page here
https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/SUP ... CART-CABLE
Type 1) RGB SCART CSYNC - this works with RGB modded PAL (UK/euro) AND NTSC (Japan and America)
Type 2) RGB SCART Sync on Luma - this only works with RGB modded N64 NTSC consoles (Japanese and American)

But at the moment the web page is only showing Type 2, the sync on luma version, which is NTSC only - dont buy the Sync on Luma one unless your console is a Japanese/American import. Type 1 seems to have vanished from their website, it's not even showing "not in stock" it's just... gone

If you have your heart set on RGC and you want it right now then you could get this one instead, which will work and does have a tonne of awesome other features. But which is also double the price
https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/SUP ... mecube-pal

I'm not sure if RGC will restock the N64 RGB SCART CSYNC cable or not - given that it seems to have vanished from their web page, not just showing out of stock. I am not very hopeful...

TL;DR if you want a cable that will work right now, and it must be from RGC, then this is the one for you https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/SUP ... mecube-pal

Sweet! I'm in a PAL region too (New Zealand) but all my consoles are NTSC as well - so many games of that era were never properly converted. Of course the N64 had some aweseome euro developers too. Maybe I need one of each...
