Dreamcast VGA on BVM-D20F1E using Extron RGB Interface
Hi All. I was wondering if possible to connect Dreamcast VGA output to Extron RGB Interface (EG 580xi). Then connect RGB outs from interface to BVM-D20F1E's RGB Inputs. Turn "sync on green" dip switch to ON on the 580xi. And also turn sync on green to ON in the BVM input configuration. Would this setup allow me to achieve 480p on my mutiformat BVM? I understand that DC will be outputting RGBHV so the big question is will the 580xi convert it to RGsB with this set up and will it be displayed properly 480p on the BVM with SoG turned on?
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

Yes that will work fine. You can also just use RGBS with external sync on the BVM.

Perfect. Thanks.fernan1234 wrote:Yes that will work fine. You can also just use RGBS with external sync on the BVM.
I will try and update.

You might need to use the SERR dip switch on the Extron if you get a distorted image.

Correct me if I am mistaken. Does RGBS support 480p. I thought it only supported 15KHz.fernan1234 wrote:Yes that will work fine. You can also just use RGBS with external sync on the BVM.
I do believe that RGsB would support 480p as that is how I get 480p from my PS2.
Thanks

That's just a quirk of the PS2. RGBS can be used for any scan rate up to the 1080i and 720p that these monitors support.

Yes, RGBS will do above 480p up to the max your analog CRT can take (720p/1080i).BigBoss1964 wrote:Correct me if I am mistaken. Does RGBS support 480p. I thought it only supported 15KHz.

Re: Dreamcast VGA on BVM-D20F1E using Extron RGB Interface
Thanks fernan1234, Kez, Dochartaigh - All your advice was pure gold. DC looks brilliant on BVM-D20 in 480p.
RGBS and SoG both work fine for 480p.
One point to note for anyone trying a similar setup with Extron RGB Interface - Do NOT use ADSP as it makes the screen all dark and colours rubbish (at least with Dreamcast VGA). Also introduces alot of ghosting around images. With ADSP I also got flagging issue with display which was resolved by activating the "SERR" dip switch (that only works when ADSP is on) - but the picture still looked horrible.
So DDSP should be turned on (DDSP DIP switch UP which deactivates ADSP). Also since I used composite sync on BVM - I also turned on the Comp Sync Dip switch.
Here are a few pics of my final result. Very happy!! (make sure to load full resolution of pics)

Looks great!
There is a setting you can tweak in the BVM to fix this issue. Check this post for more info. It's a good idea to make a note of your initial value before changing any setting on the BVM but I tweaked mine a long time ago and it has not presented issues anywhere else.BigBoss1964 wrote:One point to note for anyone trying a similar setup with Extron RGB Interface - Do NOT use ADSP as it makes the screen all dark and colours rubbish (at least with Dreamcast VGA). Kez:
Those pics in the post are the exact representative of the kind of image I got with ADSP enabled.
Will try your settings.
Thanks a lot mate!

So I changed the value of
CLP P DLY = 140
To
CLP P DLY = 150
And now the brightness and colours are fine and no ghosting with ADSP
Still there was flagging issue with ADSP which was resolved by turning on the "SERR" Dip switch.
