How does max bandwidth work in Extron matrix switchers?

Post by oldgamer »

Each Extron matrix switcher will have in its specifications a value for maximum bandwidth, such as 300MHz, and sometimes the term "fully loaded" comes with it.

But how does this value work in matrix switchers? Does it mean you get 300MHz per link running or is it 300MHz total bandwidth traveling through the switcher at any one moment (sum of all links)?

It sounds like fully load means the latter, but which is the case?

I do not know to be honest.

I do know that my Extron MVX 84 can output 4 different video signals to 4 different destinations simultaneously, and that I could not perceive a difference in image quality when I tried it. That may not be the case when routing higher-resolution signals like XGA or 1080p. I only use mine with 240p/480i and 480p signals.

What do you hope to do with an Extron switcher?

Hoping to switch to 4-6 different tv sets monitors.

Mostly I would like to know how the system would behave if you had say multiple people in the same game room and each one using a different console/monitor.

Also how super resolutions change the bandwidth used when say 320x240 is turned into 1280x240.

I've ran my 16x16 smx to 10 monitors from a single source fine.

Only issue I have is Tvs interfering with PC crt due to close proximity.

What kind of interference do you mean?

You mean the physical closeness of the TV set with the PC crt, rather than something to do with the switcher?

Yeah, If my TV's are too close to the PC CRT (almost touching) it will cause the PC CRT to have a sync line that rolls upwards.

The second I turn the TV off its all good.

Everything else runs fine side by side. (to my eyes)

You ever have issues with the degaussing coil in an adjacent set turning on and discolouring the set that was already powered up?
