PVM 14L4 failling to sync. Need a little bump in the chassis

Post by outr1de »

Hello all,
I have this Sony 14L4 that I thought was busted cause I couldn't use RGB with Ext Sync.
I blamed the console I was using, the cables and finally the monitor itself.
Everyting is working perfectly with composite and also component inputs however recently I discovered that if I waited about 10 minutes to warm up and give a little bump in the chassis the sync locks and it starts to work perfectly with RGB + Ext Sync. (It doesn't seem a connector issue)
Can it be fixed? What is the most probable cause since it works perfectly with any other form of signal and input.
Thanks

Dry solder joint somewhere along the sync line.

You’ll have to take the necessary precautions to open up the PVM and start reflowing the necessary joints, starting from the BNC connector for external sync.

Found the issue after opening up and start removing boards. An internal connector was half/sideways connected, leaving only the Sync pin hanging.
Could have been easily spotted by only opening the expansion board ports and looking inside.
Anyway, it's perfect now.
