Measuring PCB input lag

Post by shmupsrocks »

How do you go about measuring PCB input lag? I just switched from Thunder Dragon 2 to Battle Bakraid and it feels so much less laggy.

high framerate camera and a joystick with a LED connected to one the action buttons. This way you can measure the time from you pressing the button to the game reacting to your input. This remains relatively vague though, since you don't really know how code the game runs once you press a button and you have to identify a proper point in the sprite animation to get an end point for your measurement.

So if I'm reading this correctly, TD2 is more laggy than BB?

It's Big Bang, I've never actually tried TD2. Is that one faster?

Oh I completely missed it. Yes, Battle Bakraid feels less laggy than Big Bang. I've never tried Thunder Dragon 2 but I usually call my Big Bang board Thunder Dragon 2. Now I wonder if Thunder Dragon 2 is faster than Big Bang.
