I managed to grab this for next to nothing as a curiosity, as I've never owned an "HD" CRT before. Weighs a tonne. I realise 240p isn't great on this model.

Apparently with a couple of changes to the service menu you can get the lag down to nearly nothing while using the HDMI port (the analog ports all get additional processing).

I've read that the best resolution to feed it is 540p. Anyone know how I can accomplish that? Doesn't seem possible with a DVDO Edge. VP30 maybe? Would I need a Corio2? Any way to make the OSSC send out 540p?

Anyone else use a Hi-Scan set? What's it's strength(s)? PS3/360 games at 720p? Scaled to a different resolution? This beast resides in my garage and I need to determine if I really have a use for it before I break my back moving it downstairs, LOL.

The Edge requires a custom EDID to output in a resolution that's not available from the regular menu. All other processors that allow for custom timings should be able to do this. The Extron 301 should also be able to do this and here you can make sure that your 480p content is centered and not scaled at all.

I can't help with the resolution (although I think being able to 540p from an OSSC would be nice) but I did test a 27" version of this exact TV awhile back. Here are my findings:

Component:
480i: 54.8ms
480p: 37.95ms
720p: 21.41ms
1080i: 38.06ms

HDMI:
480i: 54.7ms
480p: 20.7ms
720p: 21.33
1080i: 37.97

1080i with the settings changed in the service menu that people mention: 7.34ms

Of note is the 480p through HDMI. No idea why that is so different than the component but it is. Specially with all others being close to the same. 480p and 720p aren't bad experiences and can look OK with scanlines added. Biggest downside is lightgun support and the 240p/480i switch. It causes a resync with the OSSC. I haven't tried a retrotink2x. 480i content looked pretty damn good on the TV though. If all you were playing was PS2 RPGs for example it'd be an amazing TV. I really wish there was a way to just get it to output at 240p/480i like a standard def TV but as far as I am aware that's impossible.

I never noticed a difference between HDMI and component lag wise. And I could only get 540p over component, HDMI would give me a blank screen. You can actually do other custom resolutions over component, like 864i@72hz, for movies and stuff. You just have to maintain that 1080i/540p frequency of 33.75kHz.
