Satunr S/PDIF Mod, Video Interference Until I GND to Chassis

Post by jamisonia »

I was just troubleshooting my Saturn S/PDIF mod which works correctly (in terms of sound) but seems to add some rolling interference into the RGB signal. Its most noticeable on the screen where you input the time and date. Its like a horizontal curvy black lines dancing left and right. I found that if ground the pins on the power board (where I'm grabbing GND and 5V for the mod/ and RCA connector) to the chassis it goes away. It also goes away if I unplug the RCA cable. Maybe I'm overthinking it if grounding to the chassis clears up the issue, but I'm wondering if this is the best idea in the long run?

Well I found the issue. It only happens with the S/PDIF mod shares 5V with an older mod chip. I decided to upgrade to the phantom anyway, getting that modchip working again if you unseat it is an exercise in frustration.
