Controller has no UP or LEFT on G-Net only

Post by shmupsrocks »

I have a HAS supergun, modified Hori Fighting Stick Neo II, and I just got a modified Hori Fighting Stick Neo. Both controllers work great on MVS and CPS1 but G-Net does not respond to UP or LEFT directions on the Neo although it works fine with the Neo II. I've tried 3 G-Net games. Why would this happen?

Here's the Neo internals:

and the Neo II internals:

I went through the G-Net test menu and verified that UP and LEFT do not register from the Neo in either P1 or P2 position and they register fine from Neo II. And yet both controllers work fine on all boards I've tested besides G-Net.

I'm baffled. Any ideas?

My "guess" is g-net has a more specific voltage tolerance.

I would make sure your over driving your voltage slightly on the PSU
Whats your reading on your jamma edge of your G?

What PSU are you using? They make 2 different Meanwell's that are suggested for the HAS and one has low support for higher power draw boards.

Thanks for caring. :)

Here's a shot of my PSU. I tried to buy the best one I could find.

I tried cranking the voltage up to 5.15v on the HAS but same result. I'm an electrical novice so should I put the multimeter leads on +5v and ground to test the motherboard?

I tested the G-Net pins as described above and I get 5.00v with the HAS displaying 5.17v (had no idea the drop would be that much) but the controller behavior is the same.

BTW should 5.17v on the HAS yield 5.00v on every board in my case?

Any more ideas before I give up?

I tested resistance between +5v and these pins with the controller unplugged from the supergun and power switched off. Here's what I get on G-Net:

18 up: 1.006
19 down: 0.997
20 left: 1.002
21 right: 0.967

So the ones that don't work are above 1ohm and the ones that do are below 1ohm.

Here are my MVS results where everything works.

18 up: 1.000
19 down: 1.013
20 left: 1.003
21 right: 1.002
