Professional VHS recorder - Panasonic AG-7355

Post by m54b25 »

Hi guys,

Does anyone have experience with professional VHS players?
My Panasonic AG-7355 displays error no. 5 (service manual says "reel lock error) and turns off. There is no visible damage on PCBs etc.
Where to look for a problem?

I've had a couple Sony prodecks for 3 years or so now. (SVO line)

There are always some sort of lock option(s) on these, to prevent regular joes/customers from interrupting the deck broadcasting or recording stuff (they were used by businesses after all).

Try look for some button/switch labeled "lock" or "playback only/rec only". Or on the on-screen menu is sometimes where you'll find that option

On Sony decks there's also a "key inhibit" option that deactivates all butons while the "key inhibit" switch is set to "on".

Lastly the Sonys have a programmeable option that tells the deck what to automatically do right after a tape is inserted : to either auto-play, auto-record or auto-power off. something tells me this last quirk might be the problem with your deck...

Thanks for reply.
I don't have Sony SVO to compare with my Panasonic.

I think there isn't any specific lock option, because sometimes tape goes normally for few seconds/minutes.

IMHO it is hardware issue rather than "software".
