Replacement microswitches for Seimitsu LS-56-01?

Post by Swevicus »

Dear Shmups Forum,

I have a bit of an emergency/crisis here - two (2) microswitches on the PCB of my Seimitsu LS-56-01 joystick have ceased to function and I cannot seem to find replacements ANYWHERE, whether as a complete PCB or individual switches which can be soldered on. Can anyone help me? I'm starting to think I might have been better off using the standard LS-56 (open type) model instead - at least there you can replace a microswitch easily.

Here's the micro switch PCB assembly: https://www.tops-game.jp/products/detai ... ct_id=5857

If you want separate switches -

Panasonic:

https://www.tops-game.jp/products/detai ... ct_id=5819

Omron:

Not sure where you're located, but I'm in the US and never had any issue ordering from either of those two stores.

There's another place called akishop.jp that also sells everything, but I wouldn't recommend them if you are in a hurry. It takes a fair bit of time for them to fulfill orders since they buy directly from the manufacturers first and then ship to you once the parts come in, not keeping anything in stock.

Btw, I have no idea what's different about the Omron switches. They seem to be used for the LS-60 which I've never owned.

I live in the UK, which is probably one of the most unfriendly places to be for an arcade enthusiast.

I think those stores I linked to will ship to the UK, but it might not be worth all the expense for just some spare parts.

I know of only a few vendors in the EU & UK that stock Seimitsu stuff, but sadly none of them sell what you're looking for. :|

Panasonic/Matsuhita stopped making switches, so if your switches are not broken (still clicking), you might want to try to open the switch, there's no rivet and the 2 halves just slide apart (you might need to desolder with this version ?). Be warned, some internals might spring out so be in a place where you can easily recover a small part.
Once opened you can clean the 2 contacts with a piece of cloth or paper with some alcohol. Be sure to test with multimeter before reassembly. If a contact is somehow really corroded, try some very fine sand paper (not recommended as it'll remove the plating).

Thank you, all of you. :) Since the switches are no longer made, it seems that this spells the beginning of the end for these joysticks (I'm beginning to understand why most people I know prefer the open/fasten-type models where each switch is connected individually - while it is a bit of a pain to do one at a time, you can just replace the affected switch - with the PCB models, while it's easier to wire up, it's harder to maintain).

Check if https://www.arcadeworlduk.com/ has the parts you need.

I did - there are no spare PCBs except for the Sanwa JLF and the solder-friendly microswitches are for the aforementioned joystick only. :(

They've finally arrived and they're the wrong switches - they're the ones which need to be connected individually ("open" switches) - I need the ones which can be soldered to the PCB.
