in current year is there a way to make xbox 360 region free?

is there a way to take my american xbox and make it run japanese import discs? without any danger of getting banned on xbla? all i want to do is play imports without having to buy another console

there never really was a region-free mod. If you go the RGH way for a full mod, you're able to rip japanese discs and play them from your hard drive. There are ways to combine RGH and XBox Live, but you have to read into that more carefully.

If you're just gonna RGH mod your 360 forget XBLA, it's more work than it's worth. It's easier to buy an unmodded console.
