Should all CPS1.5 boards have a coin battery in that circle on the top board?

If it's still working without then it's Phoenixed?
CPS1.5 board without battery = Phoenixed?

If running original code, a battery is required. If running with no battery then it is running decrypted code.
(Phoenix roms are only available for cps2)

Ok it sounds like that circle on the top was the only possible location for a battery on these. I'm guessing a battery isn't needed with original ROMs if using an Infinikey.

Another thought - depending on how the game was desuicided, there may have been modifications to the c board. Check the underside of the c board. Details on desuiciding which required modification, are here: http://www.arcadecollecting.com/dead/ You may be in for undoing those mods in order to return the board to native rom operation.
