Sega Power Base converter issues

Post by accaris »

I'm having some trouble playing SMS games on my Genesis. I have an official Power Base Converter as well as the Power Base Mini by Stoneage Gamers. My problem is, some games work perfectly, and others don't work at all, they just give a black screen or a blue screen.

The weird thing is, I have 3 model 1 consoles, they are all VA-6, so as far as I can tell they are identical. On one console, every game works flawlessly and I don't have any problems at all. On the other two, several specific games just give a black or a blue screen. Those games are Golvellius, Wonder Boy 2, and Shinobi.

All of those games work great on an original SMS. They are all in flawless condition.

What could cause this? SMS hardware in the two Genesis going bad? I mean, other games work perfectly, it's just those three. PCB thickness? Power base just doesn't like it?

Looking for any tips.

This sounds like the cart slot of the 2 of your VA6 machines isn't making good contact with an SMS mode pin.
