Spotting fake MVS labels

Post by shmupsrocks »

Is there a good method for determining if an MVS cartridge has a reproduction label? Either in-hand or from photos.

Were hologram labels ever faked?

Those links are helpful for fake labels that don't visually match the originals but there are very high quality reproduction labels available. Is it possible to know if a cart has one of those or the original label?

What about labels that do match visually but are slightly too long or have kind of a rippling pattern through them from the adhesive?

Look for the glossiness, holograms and serials, and if not present then compare to images online. I have a full set and know exactly which carts have replacement labels.
