Are these current values plausible for a Neo Geo MV-1C?

Post by Marmotta »

So, I have a consolized MV-1C I'm working on and was trying to figure out what gauge of wire I could get away with using for power delivery. I came up with these measurements using my multimeter:

Test with Fatal Fury 2: 0.44A
Test with 161-in 1 Cart: 0.85A

The Neo Geo User's Manual for the MV-1C states that a 5V 3A power source is necessary. Obviously there's a fair bit of redundancy in that number, but it seems pretty far off the sort of figures I was getting. Can anyone confirm or deny actual measurements?

I can’t remember what I measured when I built mine, but it was far less than 3A when running Blazing Star. I’ve used a 5V 2A PSU from some sort of router/switch on mine with no issues.

While testing/fixing an early AES, I could see current draw was 1.3 amps running a Samurai Spirits II cart, and 1.15 amps without. So the numbers you're seeing feel reasonable to me.
