How to set customs resolutions in Intel graphics on Win8 ?

Is there anybody who can guide me through that?

I have a small offline Win 8 mini PC running Win 8 (or 8.1) with integrated Intel graphics and the minimum res it allows me to set is XGA. I would like to get 480p from it, but can't manage it. It seems as the customs resolution option was removed from the Intel drivers at some point. Some sites tell you to open C:\Windows\System32\CustomModeApp.exe but that won't open for me.

Since the PC is offline, my access to util is limited. Whatever I can fully download and put onto an USB Stick is fine, but partial installers won't work.

Any help is highly appreciated!

Win 8.1, my CPU is in the supported list, but I get a message saying either hardware not supported or I already got a newer version of the driver, maybe it being an nVidia Optimus laptop configuration demands specific drivers, dunno.

I don't think any of the CRU compatible Intel drivers support the GPU I have here (Baytrail Atom).

I can't believe that something this simple can be so complicated.

Before you go digging in the registry, see if C:\Windows\System32\CustomModeApp.exe is still there.

As I recall, the feature was initially only removed from the GUI.

It's there, but it won't open.

There's also a Custommodeappv2.exe and that won't open while complaining some some .net framework is missing. The basic version (without v2) just does nothing.
