PS1 power issue

Hello everyone !
I have a very strange issue with my PS1 :

When i start the PS1 by pressing the power button, the PS1 start to spindle the disc at very high speed, and no image. I have to power off / power on 3 or 4 times to make it start normaly.

But :

If I unplug ths PS1, then pressing the power button, then plug the PS1, there is absolutly no problem.
For now, I connected the PS1 to a plug adapter, then I power the PS1 on, then power ON the adaper, and no problem.

Is it from the AC board ? What part would be faulty ? I didn't find any information on the web about this issue.

hi mim , are there any domed or bulging caps on the PSU you might want to take a look. Also you may want to check the voltages the PSU is outputting with a Multimeter

Sounds like the power supply board, yes.
I recommend you stop using this board, and swap it out for another one.
Yours is probably not safe to operate anymore.

I checked the caps. Everything seems alright. I don't have the knowledge to check the voltages... sorry (but I have a multimeter !)
THen yes, maybe I should just change the board... But it will maybe cost me more than the PS1 itself ^^

The idea is to get a whole replacement console, and use the other one for spare parts

Be careful with your multimeter and power supplies, by the way.
That big capacitor on the PSX power board can pack quite a punch, even some time after power was removed.
I wouldn't go near that section with any tool, really. Visual inspection of the area is enough anyway.
The fuse is either okay, or visibly damaged. Nothing else should be replaced.

How do you know if a fuse is good or not just by visualisation ?

I believe you can just go ahead and buy another ps1, they are so cheap here in Japan.

If there is no other solution, I will buy a PS1 for pieces. But if I can avoid any waste...

Depends on the fuse. The larger blade fuses and the cylindrical ones are big enough that you can see whether or not the connecting wire/metal is still intact; otherwise you'll need a cheap multimeter that can check continuity.

I mean you could just keep running it the way you have been until it dies, if you're going to replace it anyway
