Glue on CRT convergence rings.

Post by drojman »

Hi folks, I have a Sony PVM. Really good condition tube wise.

Only question, the the convergence rings have been glued, with more than just the regular epoxy. I don't need to adjust them in the slightest, but just want to see if it's worth scraping it off or if it's safe to leave?

Thanks

Maybe it was serviced by a technician at some point in its history. If you're fine with the purity and convergence, leave the glue.

If it's semi flexible when you push against the surface it is probably silicone, then it's easily peeled off.

If the substance is firm / unyielding then it's probably hot glue, and that comes off without much fuss when you brush it with a little isopropyl alcohol.

Either would be fine to leave in place until the time comes that you want to make any adjustment.
