I am going to do a NESRGB mod in the near future. I need to buy some wire before I start my project.
I decided to pick stranded wire (UL 1007), as it is super flexible. Do you think solid wire is a bad idea?
I am thinking on buying 16 AWG wire instead of thicker wire. I heard that you get better signal quality (audio and video) with lower gauge wire because you have less resistance.
What AWG Should I Choose for Installing NESRGB Modification?

16 gauge is massive, I wouldn't use anything larger than 22 in any console mod. Most of the time I use 28erik343 wrote:I am going to do a NESRGB mod in the near future. I need to buy some wire before I start my project.

Thin Kynar hookup wire is 30AWG. That stranded ribbon cable stuff you see used a lot is 28AWG or maybe 26AWG. The thickest wire I keep around is 22AWG.
16AWG is for smuggling copper or connecting the eastern seaboard to the power grid.

Ok thanks for the advice, but would 22 AWG have better signal quality than say 28 or 30 AWG?

Not in most console mod applicationserik343 wrote:Ok thanks for the advice, but would 22 AWG have better signal quality than say 28 or 30 AWG?

Last question:
Is silicon insulated wire more resistant to the heat of soldering than PVC?
I know that PVC wire can melt easily, but will the silicon insulated wire melt if I touch my soldering iron to it?
Just curious... thanks!

I assume you mean silicone not silicon.erik343 wrote:Last question:

Yes, silicone wire insulation does not melt at normal soldering temperature.

26awg is perfect. 30awg works but is far too small. You will end up picking up interference. 22awg is for long runs, like joystick wires. 18awg and larger are for long power runs.
