Does NESRGB have the THS7374 on it?

Post by erik343 »

I saw some Ultimate RGB modded Nintendo NES systems selling on eBay with a THS7374 bypass. Does the NESRGB include the THS7374 amp chip on its board? I inspected a NESRGB that I bought on eBay and that I also damaged myself (from ESD), and I did not see the label THS7374 on any of the Integrated Circuit chips...

Does the NESRGB have the THS7374 chip on it then?

It consists primarily of a CPLD, R2R ladder, and BH7236AF. There is no THS7374 on it.

That is weird because the eBay seller I bought the Ultimate RGB Nintendo NES from said that that the NESRGB board had the THS7374 chip on it... but if you inspect the NESRGB board, you will find no chips with the ‘THS7374’ label on it!

It appears the newest hardware revision NESRGB 2.0 with built-in dejitter does indeed have a THS7374. I'm not sure why. Previous versions did not have it

edit:

So viletim has mentioned why it now has a THS7374:
viletim wrote:The main reason was to get rid of the coupling caps. The THS7374 is cheaper than the caps and their removal will reduce the amount of times I get questions about removing them to accommodate Nintendo SCART cables. The video quality is unaffected by the change.
It does not even have the low-pass filter enabled and has no effect on the video quality. I can only assume the seller is mentioning the THS7374 as a sort of marketing ploy because of its association with SNES RGB bypass boards

Apparently I looked at the mobo and it reads: NESRGB14

I just googled that and it says that this means my board is NESRGB version 1.4

That explains it!

Ok that makes sense as I bought my modded NES before the 2.0 version was released...

Does the 2.0 NESRGB board have the low-pass filter turned off or on?

Sorry for bringing up an older post, but I am soon going to rework some of my Nintendo consoles, and I have some more questions...

Does the NESRGB version 1.4 have any kind of low pass filters applied to the video signal?
I want that **** turned off!

What about newer NESRGB boards?

Thanks! :D
