Dual Shock 4 Rumble Motor Repair?

Post by ASDR »

Today my DS4 controller suddenly started to make a really obnoxious sound when any kind of rumble was present. I tried to find out what the issue was and after several unsuccessful attempts I finally just had the thing completely dissembled connected and rumbling. The right motor with the small weight just makes that clicking sound depending on how it's oriented. It looks like it's just the motor itself, nothing loose, being struck etc. that's vibrating. The motor seems fairly hard to remove from the plastic piece it is glued into and from what I can tell there are no replacement motors specifically for the DS4 available on eBay and AliExpress.

Did anybody with a similar issue manage to fix this?

(Also that DS4 is such a pain to take apart and put back together. But I guess that's just electronics these days...)

Kinda hard to find, but looks like you can actually buy these things:

Just got my right motor:

Works perfectly fine. You'll need some hot air to soften the adhesive holding the old motor in.

~2.50EUR for a new motor sure beats ~55EUR for a new controller.
