XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
So I fiddled around various combinations but I just cannot get a signal out of the Extron RGB 203 rxi.
When I connect the XB360 via VGA cable to the VSC500 and taking the RGBS via Scart to my JAMMA connector (or via BNC to PVM) it works. Picture is what looks like 480i and has some scaling issues but it works.
If I go the VGA to VSC500 outputting RGBHV to VGA into the RGB203 rxi, I get 15Khz on the small display of the RGB 203 but a black screen on my Arcade cab. Same on the Sony PVM.
It seems as if the 203 rxi doesnt put out a signal at all!
Do I need a sync strike or am I missing anything to get the 203 rxi to work?
Any help or knowledge is appreciated.

You are using the BNC outputs on the RGB interface, yes?
Re: XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
Yes, since there is no other way. I put out RGBS via BNC.

What is the model number of your PVM? I take it the reason for including the scaler is that it doesn't do 480p?

Can't the VSC 500 output RGBS natively? Why use the RGB unit?

Its the 20M2E and it takes 480p just fine. Its when I output any signal from the 203rxi that I dont get an image whatsoever...nmalinoski wrote:What is the model number of your PVM? I take it the reason for including the scaler is that it doesn't do 480p?

Yes, the VSC500 outputs RGBS and it works - only that its 480i and not 240p. Also the image isnt very stable.orange808 wrote:Furtin72 wrote:Yes, since there is no other way. I put out RGBS via BNC.

I followed the „scanlines demistified“ solution from fudoh. Maybe the 203 rxi output is somehow faulty?

Re: XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
Then why use the VSC 500 at all? Configure the 360 for 640x480 output, then connect that directly to the RGB interface to get 480p RGBS for your PVM.Furtin72 wrote:Its the 20M2E and it takes 480p just fine. Hmm, thinking about it, I will specify more clearly:nmalinoski wrote:You are using the BNC outputs on the RGB interface, yes?
I put out RGBHV from the VSC500 via BNC to D-SUB into the RGB 203rxi.
Then from the rxi RGBS to SCART.
For the PVM:
From the SCART I have a connector to BNC to the PVM.
For the Egret2:
From the SCART I build a connector to RGBS plus ground to JAMMA.
Without the 203rxi I get an image that looks like 480i on both, the PVM and the Egret2.
Its just the 203rxi that is somehow never showing an image, with or without VSC500.
Maybe I‘m missing something?

I will try that now but I think I already did.nmalinoski wrote:Then why use the VSC 500 at all? What I was really interested in, is to get the xbox360 on my arcade cab working ... the PVM was for testing purpose, if the rxi is putting out an image at all. And I have the feeling I missed a link or something...

Re: XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
If you're downscaling 480p to 240p and you also want to try the "double strike" (480i deinterlaced to 240p) method (changing the field offset), buy a Corio2. The Extron RGB gets rid of the field offset by accident and only works on CRTs. The Corio2 is designed to give you control over the field offset and it always works. In my experience, the best way to do that trick is the Corio2.

Re: XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
Hm, okay. Thanks orange808, I might consider this but will try some other variants as well. Also I wonder what fudoh did differently, since this is practically the exact Extron VSC/RGB combo (apart from beeing a VSC500 and not 700 which makes no difference)...
Also, as I thought: the rxi isnt putting out a signal to my PVM.
I just linked the xbox360 via RGBS cable to my PVMs (I have the 20M2 and 20L4) and both have a great 480i image - but I wanted to go down the fudoh route and have 240p for some great scanlines. There must be a way to get the 203 rxi working.

Re: XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
just wanted to confirm: ANY other method will be easier to setup and yield better results on top.
And a wild guess: is your BNC to Scart cable configured for the right direction? These cables are NOT bi-directional, since sync in and out don't share the same pin on the scart connector.
Two two things I did different back then: a) I used a VSC700 since it has an additional level of flicker reduction, where it basically creates a 240p image using two fields for each frame and b) I used RGsB connection into my BVM, so I didn't have to deal with an extra sync line.

Well I just learned that the 20m2e/u does 480p! I didn't know that, I thought for sure it was 15kHz onlyFurtin72 wrote:Its the 20M2E and it takes 480p just fine. Its when I output any signal from the 203rxi that I dont get an image whatsoever...

Hm, I have flicker reduction on the VSC500 aswell. Maybe I look into my SCART connection again. I will also try the RGsB route.Fudoh wrote: Two two things I did different back then: a) I used a VSC700 since it has an additional level of flicker reduction, where it basically creates a 240p image using two fields for each frame and b) I used RGsB connection into my BVM, so I didn't have to deal with an extra sync line.
Thanks for the help and feedback anyone!

Doh! You are right! Of course its only 15kHz! My bad.FinalBaton wrote:Well I just learned that the 20m2e/u does 480p! Re: XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
If I recall correctly, the VSC 500 and VSC 700 have identical processing features. AFAIK, the 700 models just added more input and output options.

Re: XB360 via Extron VSC+RGB to Egret2/PVM failure
One more thought: could it be, that the signal is to weak? I read somewhere that the signal from a console is to weak and needs to be amplified...?
