MVS sound works sometimes

Post by shmupsrocks »

I got a new MVS 1F motherboard and cleaned the pins thoroughly with alcohol. The sound works most of the time but sometimes it gets quieter and quieter during a game until I can't hear it. Restarting or changing (cleaned) games sometimes fixes it and sometimes doesn't. Does failing audio hardware behave this way or could it just need more cleaning somehow?

If it's just a volume issue, that seems like you would need to replace all of the capacitors in the audio amp section of the motherboard. This is pretty common on Neo Geo boards.

Recap and verify that all traces are clean and connected properly. No corrosion basically. If the original battery is still on the board you need to remove it ASAP.
