I have a multimedia player with HDMI output and a Portta HDMI to VGA for display video content in my VGA monitor
Of course, there is no problem with 480p movies, but it seems 576p (PAL) is not supported by the VGA standard
So, what are my options for displaying 576p on a VGA monitor?
The idea is to be able to play PAL video DVD on the monitor
Thanks in advance
Best option for displaying PAL 576p on VGA CRT monitor?

Re: Best option for displaying PAL 576p on VGA monitor?
You mean like a typical CRT monitor for PC's? They should be able to display 576p no problem, unless 50hz is too low of a vertical refresh. Most of the time it's 40-48hz minimum.
My guess is your HDMI>VGA DAC isn't accepting it. I would try another DAC. HD Fury should do 576p no problem.

Compatible monitors might be hit or miss. 50hz wasn't a formally defined part of VGA.
Of course the proliferation of successors and extensions to VGA makes it tough to say which uncommon modes de facto work anywhere.

That's what I've read, that 576p is not included in the VGA standardtheclaw wrote:Compatible monitors might be hit or miss. 50hz wasn't a formally defined part of VGA.
So, there is no way or trick for display 576p through VGA?

Well, that's the beauty of a CRT, isn't it? It doesn't necessarily matter what the standard is. It just has to be within the mechanical abilities of the machine.
We apologise for the inconvenience

right but there's a good chance that a VGA monitor won't sync down to 50Hz vertorange808 wrote:Well, that's the beauty of a CRT, isn't it? It doesn't necessarily matter what the standard is. It just has to be within the mechanical abilities of the machine.

I haven't encountered one that wouldn't. Should be just fine.maxtherabbit wrote:right but there's a good chance that a VGA monitor won't sync down to 50Hz vertorange808 wrote:Well, that's the beauty of a CRT, isn't it? In my experience, compatibility is usually about getting the horizontal scan rate and pixel clock right.

I've contacted Hantarex and they have confirmed the monitor I have only can do 640x480 and 800x600 resolutions
So, 576p is out of specifications for my monitor...
