ok i will try to make a list, can you tell me whats with the SA and try to fill the ? gaps, if there are any other differences please post them, thanks.
it seems the difference between the SA (Seimitsu stick & buttons) and the SE (Sanwa stick & buttons) is apparently in just the supplier of the parts. both are mentioned as having the jap arcade cab layout.
the HRAP first model is the only stick which has the slightly inferior button layout, which is based on traditional console stick layouts.
hope this helps
the hori buttons are very nice actually
Astro style layout is the way to go. Seimitsu make pretty good sticks too. They're a bit stiffer than Sanwas. Some poeple say "Sanwa for fighting games, Seimitsu for shooters". I say to each his own -- both are better than anything you can buy for a console (other than the Arcade Pros listed above).

Does the bottom 3 sticks in Hori pro range above come in the origonal pro color scheme (green buttons)?
NO, i don't think they do. although you could maybe modify it yourself by changing with green stick and buttons (easily done i believe). although you still wouldnt have the mirror top finish of the pro original. although arcade cabs dont have the mirror finish either.

Which doesn't make much sense considering most 2D fighters use Seimitsu sticks anyway.
Just in case you're thinking of getting an SA/SE (meaning you've actually found one, which is pretty hard in and of itself but whatever), do note that the SA (Special Addition) is the Sanwa and SE (Special Edition) is the Seimitsu. It makes a lot of sense: the SA's "addition" is Sanwa buttons. Meanwhile, the SE is a completely different edition from the normal HRAP.
However, you can expect to pay $150-200 used for the SA shipped if you can even find it so unless you're willing to spend that much money, I'd go the cheaper path by getting an HRAP2 and replacing the buttons.

Not sure about the states. In Japan, it depends on the arcade. When I was playing VF4, the shop employees had to constantly swap out buttons and sticks b/c they would go bad. Gotta remember -- these machines were played a lot every day, and some people even bang on them. I'm pretty sure the Net City cabs I played on used Sanwa products.
Dave: If you go to shoryuken.com's hardware forums, you can find people that will build custom Sanwa sticks. They can run about $150 though. I will one day have more than I need, but that won't be for a while. The two I have now are the two I built, and didn't do a good job. They're kind of falling apart, so can't really sell them with a clean conscience.

Thanks, that's alright-I wouldn't pay that much for a joystick anyway; that's a lot of money!

I wanted it small, compact, and modeled after my Astro City cabinets. So the buttons/stick are very close and the start button is off to the side. I had to put in a few nuts to get the stick height matching my cabinet.
I will probably put on a purple ball top once the second LS-55-01 I ordered comes in. I love these sticks!
I've got one exactly the same shape for the Gamecube only it's by Competition Pro. If it's the same, then it's the worst arcade stick I've ever had the misfortune too use. Even for £2.99 new, I feel ripped off. It really is awfull.
