Coleco ram mod and power question

Post by kynrek »

My original colecovision power supply died (as most do) so I wired up an arcade power supply instead to get the -5 +5 and +12v needed (which works fine). I purchased the 5v ram mod for my colecovision. If I perform this mod can I just get a simple +5v power supply and skip the -5 and +12v. I also did a composite video mod so I don’t use the RF modulator.

You can skip -5 because the RAM will be replaced, but you’ll still need 12v.

You can buy a replacement power supply from console5 too. Just plug in a USB C and go. Also you need +12 because your composite video mod uses it. The cvbs mod and the chip that drives chroma require +12. If you wanted to completely dump +12 you would need to go RGB since that only needs +5.
