I'm thinking of buying this MV-1F motherboard but I can't decide if the battery is leaking. Can anyone tell from the photos?

I have a MV-1C motherboard (want to buy it?) but I want stereo sound and I don't want a modded board.
Is this battery leaking?
Re: Is this battery leaking?
The corrosion on the battery leg in the first pic is very obvious, get it replaced ASAP before it can do more damage.
Re: Is this battery leaking?
100% of these old can batteries need to be removed if you want to preserve the hardware.
If they haven't leaked yet, they're guaranteed to do so soon. The process can start much faster when powering on the machine.
This is different from the coin cell batteries you might find in a cartridge game, by the way.
The coin cells mostly just go out without further issues, but the can type batteries *always* leak.

Re: Is this battery leaking?
Is it possible to replace a can style battery with a new can style battery? Are they still being manufactured? I'm trying to keep my gear mod-free even if it means compromising on functionality/longevity/etc.
Re: Is this battery leaking?
Find out what type it is, then look for it on Ebay for example.
These should still be available. Remember to replace it in another 15 years ;p

Re: Is this battery leaking?
General rule of thumb. If it's a MVS and the battery isn't in a coin holder, it's leaking.
While I understand wanting to keep it original, what's wrong with a coin cell holder and rechargeable coin cell battery? That's not some that requires anything extra beyond removing the current one, cleaning, and soldering the holder. No actual board changes are needed.

Well this guide says the PGM motherboard needs a couple other changes in order to switch to a coin cell battery:

(click "Other" -> "Arcade Misc" and look for the "Replacing that Leaky Battery" guide link)

You're also required to cut out part of the coin cell holder to make it fit.Now you will need to remove both the 470ohm resistor marked R24 and the D2 diode.
