Does the NES have a low-pass filter? What about NES RGB?

Post by erik343 »

Just wondering if the NES uses a low-pass filter (without modification)?

I was also wondering if a NESRGB modded NES bypasses this low-pass filter?
Such as this model: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultimate-RGB-N ... 663.l10137

Does the low-pass filter degrade image quality?

Thanks.

LPF is mostly a good thing. It's usually only detrimental when you have more than one LPF in use, e.g. several stacked on top of each other.

Depends on your monitor (LCD / CRT etc) and what other devices you have in the chain, scalers such as the OSSC for example, as to whether the LPF will be beneficial or detrimental.

Does anybody know if the NES, without modification, incurs a low-pass filter?

I found out that the NESRGB mod I found on ebay.com can turn this off!

I found the lpf is really only used to clean up noisy images!

Thanks.
