Sony PVM-14N5U 220v?

Post by Brando1975 »

Does anyone know if this monitor (Sony PVM-14N5U) can be directly connected to 220v? in the manual says the following "universal power supply 100-240V (UL listed for 120V / 50Hz only)" but behind the monitor says 120v. Thanks

Will *probably* be fine as it stands, but...

It might be a case of just changing the fuse. The power supply section is on the A board of the N-series PVMs. The Service Manual lists the same A-board for all three 14N5 models A/E/U - [[[28 * A-1298-614-A A BOARD, COMPLETE (PVM-14N5A/14N5E/14N5U)]]] Pdf page 50, manual section 7-2

See if you can find a part number on your A board itself. That same page of the manual indicates the fuse is item 31, at 4A 250VAC, but i'd mb pull the actual fuse to check. Sadly this might involve some disassembly, because the N series hides a lot of the A board under the tube. You'll probably want to discharge the tube (watch at least 6 vids on how to do this and take an average approach) because you can't move the A board without disconnecting the anode cap, among other parts. (EDIT: actually, the flyback lead is often coiled once, so if you undid that, you might be able to slide the A board back without disconnecting the lead from the anode button. Once you remove the input board an anything else blocking the A board).

Out of interest, can anyone say what the difference is with the SSM models, and why they have a different A-board to the PVM-N5 and N6 units?

As an addendum, I opened up a PVM-1454QM on the weekend to find its power supply board was completely different to the model in the service manual i had. The lesson being, don't take anything for granted, open up the set and make sure.
