mvx 1212 to 1616

Post by mvsfan »

can an extron MVX 1212 be converted to a 1616?

they seem to look exactly the same except for 4 missing vga / phoenix connectors. they even have 16 buttons already.

Probably, but that would likely involve sourcing the rear PCB of an MVX 1616, which I expect will be more difficult than sourcing a functioning MVX 1616. :P

If you find sourcing parts to be a problem, you can always get another MVX unit or a CrossPoint and link the output from one into an input on the other.

Another option is to find a small SMX case and put the 1616 vga and 1616 audio cards in it.

so the pcbs are definately different? i would have thought that they had the same pcb as the 1616 but just didnt include the vga ports.

I mean that way makes more sence than having 2 pcbs.

and im pretty sure the 1212 has the spaces there in the case for the ports. its covered by a thin plastic piece.
