Hi there,
I've got a pvm-20m4e, had it for a few years and have been enjoying pointblank recently.
Unfortunatley yesterday I went for a play and the screen was ok but just started slowly fading to nothing.
I left it overnight but today the problem remains. It includes the onscreen menu system, this also fades to nothing.
Turning off and on again does bring back a very bright image, which again over about 60 seconds fades to black.
Has anyone seen this before? As far as i'm aware it's never had a recapping.
Thanks
S

Usually it's a cold solder joint or something else associated with the heater in the tube.
Check the neckboard connector ect.

Re: Sony PVM-20M4E screen fades to black
Thanks for the direction Syntax. I've looked round the neck board. re-wet everything and recapped the three neck board caps. Alas no avail.
I've filmed the glow from the back of the neck, it starts to glow instantly when the monitor is turned on and stays solid even as the picture slowly fades away.
It takes about 60-70 seconds to fade to black. When just turned on the screen is over bright, slowly fades down and looks awsome half way through the fade! (which is why we love these things! )
Any ideas gladly received!
Thanks

The neck keeps glow the entire time?
That's a new one for me sorry I was no help.

Re: Sony PVM-20M4E screen fades to black
That's right.
Here is the video. It's slightly dark, but necessary to capture the glow on my camera.
I turn the PVM on at about 3 seconds and you can see the glow to the left of the video. To the right of the video you can see the white light and this slow fades to nothing over the minute.
But the glow is constant.

EDIT:
I thought I try a different signal, RGB from a megadrive instead of the PS1.
I captured it on video also, It fades over the 60 odd seconds, but the normal R G B lines at the top are still visible after picture has gone!

I've contacted savon-pat on ebay. but ebay filter urls for pictures and videos. He's asked me to find his email address and email directly.
I can't find it - does anyone have it? Could they PM me?
Thanks

Re: Sony PVM-20M4E screen fades to black
It's been a while but I have manged to fix this and thought it maybe helpful to someone else in the future.
Patrick suggested I checked the regulators, I changed the 12v and the 5v regs and I also replaced the PC111.
Now good as new!
For completeness, I replaced:-
All G PSU Board
IC603 NJM78M05FA
IC604 TA7805S
IC605 TA7812S
PH601 PC111
Hope it helps someone

good job! Thanks for the post back - remember seeing this, or another similar pvm thread, and having no idea. Always good to get... a... happy ending... completely blanking on how else to put it :/
