Anyone tried boiling NES rubber controller pads?

Post by Brad251 »

I watched a video on restoring an NES controller made by Voultar and he suggested that boiling worn out NES controller button pads for about 45 seconds will restore their elasticity. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this and what their results were? I'm definitely going to try this on one of my controllers. I will be so happy if this works for me because 3rd party NES controller rubber pads are not good at all.

I don't have an answer for you - would love it if this turns out to actually work though - but I will suggest looking for some of the $9.99 NES Classic controllers now that they are back on the market. I can confirm excellent excellent excellent OEM rubber response. Actually, from memory these are clearly better than the feel of the originals.
