Recca cart authenticity

Post by Liquidus0 »

I just got a Summer Carnival '92 Recca famicom cart from ebay. The japanese seller has a good reputation and sold heavies like this in the past, but I noticed the board's connectors is unlike any ever seen.

I just can't find PCB scans of Recca on internet. And when I try to compare the connectors from the bottom of the cart, I see different shape of connectors.

The 2 first pictures are my cart, the 3rd one is from another ebay auction. Notice the difference between the 2 pictures of the front of the cart. My cart's connectors are rounded edge and the middle part is different too.

Is there possible that different PCBs were use for the same release ?

Can someone confirm that it is a legit copy of Recca and not a repro board ?

Thank you for your help. !

I'd find my Recca and compare - but to be honest I've never opened the shell to check the PCB myself either (I trusted the seller, too)

Looks kind of questionable, the label appears to be made of a thicker paper stock too. Your best bet is to open the cartridge, which isn't the easiest for Famicom shells but it's possible without damaging the plastic if you're patient and careful.

I opened it carefully without damaging it.

It is a repro :(

Here a close up pictures of the label and the repro PCB.

Here's pictures I took of a legit cart (before I traded it) that I originally got years ago before there were really any repros of the game (other than blatant pirate carts).

I didn't open the cart, but the connector pins shown in some of the pictures are probably a telltale sign since no repros seem to try to mimic that exact layout.

For what it's worth, here is mine. Fortunately it looks like cr4zymanz0r's. I'm really sorry to hear that yours is a bootleg, and crossing fingers that you'll get your money back without issues.

I tried comparing the connector edges with other FC carts, and was surprised just how much they actually vary. Especially a lot of Konami's carts look like total bootlegs with their weird brown boards.
