Xbox component conversion via AVR

Post by mario64 »

Hi all,

Need some help please. My Denon AVR has component to HDMI conversion which I am using with my original Xbox. Problem is, it maxes out at 4K 30fps. I believe some original Xbox games run at 60fps so this would limit me to 30 correct? If so, any recommendation on whether I should use 1080p/60 or just pass through the Xbox output resolution and let the TV handle all upscaling?

Thanks for any help

I'll see if I can help and figure something out with testing. I also have a Denon AVR where passthrough gives me 30 fps. But now that I think about it, my HDMI ports on the back can do 4k60fps (tested on my xbox one). But my HDMI port in the front cannot do 4K60 (it does 4k30).

Which Denon receiver? Quick search it looks like you'll need the X3300 or above to get 4K/60 (at least in the posts from 2017 I was reading).

Is it upscaling or just passing the signal through? Usually they are saying it can do a maximum of 4k30, but it could do, say, 1080p60 instead.

The S910W. It upscales only to 4K/30fps

That is precisely the question. Since 4K/30 is presumably limiting my FPS should I have the AVR upscale to 1080/60 or simply pass through and let the TV handle upscaling?
